Introduction To Cloud Computing

                 “Cloud computing is a general term   for computing services delivered over the Internet, as opposed to computing services hosted inside your own network; on your own premises”

Cloud computing offers you to reduce the cost, because users don’t have to worry about invest money to purchase the requirement hardware and software. Even user no need to think about operating costs of electric power, availability of space and require cooling for the hardware. Most important thing is no need to maintaining of the hardware and software and employee costs.



What Cloud Makes Difference On Premises vs Cloud Computing Based Manner?

  1. On-demand  “use it only when you need it”;
  2. Elasticyou can have as little or as much as you need”.
  3. Shared “your computing services are shared with other users”.

The Basic requirement need for end-user is often only needs a computer and a browser client or mobile device and browser/mobile application to access a cloud-based application.


  1. Public -    It is available to anyone to use It
  2. Private –  Specially hosted with  an organization for the exclusive  use alone by its employees, members or partners
  3. Hybrid -    cloud that is both part in public & part in private.



Do u Know What Services Cloud Will Provide?  

       –>Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IAAS)       

       –> Platform-as-a-Service (PAAS)       

      –> Software-as-a-Service (SAAS)


Infrastructure as a Service 

It is one of the three delivery methods of cloud computing (the other two are Platform aa Service and Software aa Service).  This is services called platform or compute for the end-user. Users of IAAS have the expertise to maintain operating systems and applications, but don’t wish to purchase server, storage and networking hardware and a datacenter to house the hardware. The cloud provider provides these services from a shared pool. The cloud user will then use the virtual machines to fulfill their computing requirements and may install their own operating system and will install their own applications on the virtual machines.

This to be achieve by the Two forms 1) Public Cloud & 2) Private Cloud

Eg: Amazon Webservices, Vmware, Rackspace

 Platform As a Service

It is the platform based on service ie.., you people no need to worry configure things on your working system, you just configure this services on the cloud setup. Finally, you access this services with the support of IAAS service.

Consider an scenario, If u want to use Eclipse before that need to install it on your system so that need Java for platform support on your system. So cloud services make solution for that you configure Java, Eclipse on the Cloud setup and u people can access this Eclipse via this services, rather than install on your system.

Eg.. Eclipse, NetBeans, Phython, Java

 Software As a Service

It is the services provided based on software Application to the end-user. If u have any Application based on software, which is need to configure in the cloud setup. Then you can able provide this services to end-users.

Consider an scenario, If u develop any application in our cases “APEX” we configured this database application in cloud Environment and make it services to End-user.

Eg.., Gmail, APEX, CRM.

Private Cloud

An organization can build a private cloud and then provide infrastructure services to their internal departments or partners. private Cloud Setup is only for an organisation, that the Data Center availability into the Intranet of that organisation and then Provide the services to Employee or Customer, who working in that intranet.

A private cloud looks and acts like as a Public cloud, ie., providing your corporation all the speed, sharing, agility and cost savings advice by cloud technology, only services to single-tenant and even you, Right? Well, that’s the goal, but it’s not quite the reality yet for most enterprises.


User  access the resources/device such as Storage, Network, Application, Virtual Machine,.. within the Intranet of Enterprise Data Center are represented the Cloud Computing.

To build a private cloud, you need virtualization software to run a hypervisor. If u need  more understanding on Virtualization, please  Refer Virtualization Blog in my previous blog. Below Listed software are available to setup Hypervisor. Choose your well known software among I listed here and use it to implement. Virtualization is an important component in Cloud Computing.

Examples of hypervisor software

  •  kvm- Kernel-based Virtual Machine is available with most Linux distributions since kernel build 2.6 and is available as open-source software.
  • Redhat- is an example of KVM virtualization
  • XEN – is another Linux based open-source hypervisor. Citrix licensed Xen and offers it as a commercial product. Rackspace and Amazon Web Service  run Xen.
  • VMWARE – the commercial company has an open-source offering as well.
  •  Microsoft Private Cloud.

Once you have Ready setup  with a virtualization or hypervisor layer, then you need cloud software to provide provisioning the on-demand and elasticity features of cloud computing as a Service.


Provisioning is the enterprise-wide configuration, deployment and management of multiple types of IT system resources. Once all resources (Application, Storage, Network….) are ready in cloud computing Setup by admin and User will request what they need? to cloud admin, here admin should response the services exactly as the same as  user request.


Examples of private cloud software

  • EUCALYPTUS:- Eucalyptus open-source and is available commercially.
  • OPENSTACK:- OpenStack is open-source and licensed as a commercial product by Rackspace, Nebula and many others

Public Cloud

Public cloud computing IaaS provides cloud instances to anyone with Internet access. Public IaaS is used by individuals or corporations who don’t wish to use capital expenditure to purchase hardware and associated operating expenses. Unlike a hosted private IaaS cloud, the interface to a public IaaS cloud is open to anyone and access is restricted only by firewall and authentication credentials.


Some examples of public cloud:

  •  AMAZON:- Elastic Compute Infrastructure (EC2), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) – also called AWS (Amazon Web Services)
  •  Gogrid

  •  Virtustream
